Register Early, Save Big for Charleston Distance Run

Received in an email:
Register by Aug. 1 for the 15-miler in the Charleston Distance Run and save $10 to $20. The registration fee is $35 by that date and climbs to $45 by Aug. 21 and $55 by 9 p.m. Aug. 30.
John Palmer, race director of the CDR, said participants will get a lot of value for their money when they sign up for the 41st annual event, scheduled 7:30 a.m. Aug. 31.
“We really believe the Distance Run is one of the best bargains in American road racing,” Palmer said. “You get to participate in a historic event on a beautiful, challenging course, plus you receive lots of perks at a very affordable price.”
All entrants gain free admission to the pre-race pasta dinner Aug. 30 at the Charleston Civic Center, where they can load up on carbohydrates the evening before the CDR. Volunteers at this festive event will be distributing goodie bags, each loaded with a long-sleeve technical shirt and race number.
Entrants also will be eligible to compete for trophies and for a share of thousands of dollars in cash prizes that include money for age group winners. After crossing the line on the track at University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field, each finisher will receive a special medal. They also will be served refreshments, including pizza, fruit and drinks, and can attend a ceremony for the results and awards.
With all of these features, runners get a lot of mileage out their entry fee. But the CDR truly offers something for the whole family and every fitness level. Participants also can choose between a 5K race, three-person 15-mile relay and 5K and 10K walks. This year the Distance Run is proud to be a supporter of Wounded Warrior, with $1 of every entry fee going to this special military program.
