RCGC Grand Prix Update December 2023

    The Runners’ Club of Greater Cincinnati is doing a Grand Prix Series in 2023. The goal of the Grand Prix is to include and recognize members that do many of the races that the club puts on, supports or races that support the club. So far about 52 club members have participated in at least one Grand Prix Race.  Next race and last race in the series in the Grand Prix is the Egg Nog Jog on December 16. Club Members That Did The 2023 Straight Street Climb

 The Straight Street Hill Climb is a .36 mile race up Straight Street in the CUF neighborhood. The race was started by the Clifton Track Club in 1976 and is currently the Sunday before Thanksgiving. In the 1970's and 1980's it was part of a Hill Climb Series, four races up Cincinnati's steepest hills and put on by  a group in the Clifton Track Club known as MAHFU(Mountains and Hill Freaks United).  Straight Street and Monastery Hill were always in the rotation and the other two Hill Races in the series rotated on different streets and hills in Greater Cincinnati.  Since the Straight Street Climb has a significant part in the club's history, here is a list of those members that did the 2023 Straight Street Climb this past Sunday. 2023 Thanksgiving Day Races in Greater Cincinnati

Greater Cincinnati Hill Runs

 Club Member Tammy Otten is putting together an informal running series to conquer the 10 worst (or best, depending on perspective) hills of Cincinnati. There are 7 routes with 10 hills ranging from 4 miles to 7 miles. Meet each Saturday morning at 9:00 at the designated location and Tammy will bring routes. Meeting routes will be posted on the club's Facebook Group a few days before the scheduled run. Full transparency, these routes were created a few years back by Jason Hoyt! The first will be on Saturday 11/11/2023 and will run each Saturday. All paces welcome! Walkers welcome.

2023 Halloween Races In Greater Cincinnati

  Any kid knows that October 31 is Halloween which means food and dressing up in costume.  If you can not wait that long, there are few Halloween themed races throughout the month of October to get you in the Halloween spirit.  Here are a few of them, check the club calendar for a few more.

• HJWL Run For Your Bones 5k, Saturday October 21, 9:00 am, Municipal Brew Works, Hamilton OH. We all have that giving feeling inside our bones!  Come join the first ever Hamilton Junior Women’s League 5k run.  The money raised from the event benefits charitable organizations serving women and children in the Butler County area.  So, come on out and shake your hips and rattle your bones and have a fun day! Visit the race information page for more information.
• Monster Mash & Dash 5k  Walk/Run, Saturday October 21, 4:00 pm, Clinton Massie Campus, Clarksville OH. Wear costume during the run. Registration includes access to trunk or treat after the run. • Running Scared 5k, Saturday October 21, 6:00 PM, Veteran's Memorial Stadium, 1600 West Street, Reading OH - A flat 3.1 mile course through a “spooky” cemetery, ending at a fabulous Halloween Fest!  Participants are encouraged to run/walk in costumes. After the race, people are admitted to the post race party where they can listen to a hot band or have a cold beer. 2023 Sue Harder 5k - October 1

 Sue Harder passed away suddenly at the young age of 58 in January 2021. She was a beloved member of the Fleet Feet Running Club. She was a very active runner who ran three marathons and countless half marathons. Her latest half marathon was just a few months before her passing. She was supportive of all new runners and was a friend and cheerleader to all her fellow runners. 

The 2023 Sue Harder Memorial 5K is to be the third annual memorial run for Sue. The run will commemorate Sue by welcoming new friends and old for a 5K in her hometown in Cincinnati as well as virtually across the country. Proceeds will be donated to Girls on the Run. Visit the registration page  or run4sue.org for more information.
