RCGC Grand Prix Update - October 2017

Scores have been updated for the 2017 RCGC Grand Prix through the Bean Bash Dash.(View Standings) using official scoring.  Official scoring is based on your best 7 races run(either A, B, C), your next best B race, and a C race.  The goal of the Grand Prix is to include and recognize members that do many of the races that the club puts on or supports. So far, about 75 club members have participated in at least one Grand Prix Race.
 Upcoming races in the RCGC Grand Prix include the the Ault Park Mile and Mason Half Marathon and 5k.

Volunteer Opportunities - Fall 2017

Here are some upcoming opportunities where you can help out the Runners' Club of Greater. If you can help out with any of these events, we would greatly appreciate it:
  1. RCGC Ault Park Mile - The RCGC Ault Park Mile  needs 5-10 volunteers to help with registration, timing, and post race on Sunday October 29. It would take 1-2 hours  of your time. The jobs are easy and you will get the Ault Park Mile Shirt. Volunteering is one of the easiest ways to get to know other club members. Let us know whether you can help by emailing us at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com or sign up at the online registration page. 
  2. RCGC Turkey Burner Mile - The RCGC Turkey Burner Mile  needs 5-10 volunteers to help with registration, timing, and post race on Sunday November 26. It would take 1-2 hours  of your time. The jobs are easy and you will get a few other goodies. Volunteering is one of the easiest ways to get to know other club members.   3. Ongoing Openings - Currently we have few openings for keeping the club running on an ongoing basis:  Social Chair,  Program Chair, and Membership Chair. Most positions take 2-3 hours a month of your time. If you can or would like to fulfill one of these positions, please send an email to cincinnatirunning@gmail.com or attend the next board meeting on November 1.

Mason Half-Marathon and 5k - November 5

Join the Epilepsy Foundation for the 2017 Mason Half Marathon and 5k!
Come out on Sunday, November 5, 2017, for the Mason Half Marathon, 5K run/walk to support those in our community who struggle from the effects of seizures. Runners follow a beautiful course through local parks and the streets of Mason. Chip timing is used and all finishers of the 5K run/walk and of the half marathon will receive finisher medals as well as a great event shirt. Visit www.epilepsy-ohio.org for more information.

2017 Halloween Races in Greater Cincinnati

Any kid knows that October 31 is Halloween which means food and dressing up in costume.  If you can not wait that long, there are few Halloween themed races throughout the month of October to get you in the Halloween spirit.   Here are a few of them: 
  • Halloween Without Heroin 5k, Saturday October 7, 12:00 PM, Damon Park, Middletown OH - Join the Salvation Army for their Halloween Without Heroin 5K Race/Walk. This year the race is at Damon Park, right where the Salvation Army Safe House sits. Cost of the 5K is $15 for adults preregistration and $20 raceday. Features a post race festival including music and balloon release. Visit the race information page for more information or to register.
  • Running Scared 5k, Saturday October 7, 6:00 PM, Veteran's Memorial Stadium, 1600 West Street, Reading OH - A flat 3.1 mile course through a “spooky” cemetery, ending at a fabulous Halloween Fest!  Participants are encouraged to run/walk in costumes. After the race, people are admitted to the post race party where they can listen to a hot band or have a cold beer. They can enjoy food and drinks from generous sponsors and listen to the live jammin’ band while they stay toasty warm inside or gather around the roaring fire outside.  Proceeds benefit Youth Education.  Visit www.runningscared5k.org for more information.
  • Trick or Trail, Sunday October 8, 2:00 PM, Oxford Community Park, Oxford OH - A 1K or 5K-ish Run/Walk in Costume along the Trails of the Oxford Community Park.  A Great Day of FUN for the Whole Family to Enjoy! Proceeds support The Luna Cares Fund which was created to help local women battling cancer with the financial burdens caused from medical costs incurred during treatments.   • Mud-o-Ween 5k, Saturday October 21, 10:00 AM, Countryside YMCA, Lebanon OH - Take on the muckiest challenge! Three miles on all terrain trail run. You won’t come out clean after you slide down the ravine and run the creek trail. Forget about tires or barrels as obstacles– worry about fallen trees to block your way. Think you can cross the pond and still be recognized by your friends? Come race dressed as your favorite super hero if you dare. See what you can accomplish at the Countryside YMCA Mud-O-Ween! Presented by the Ohio River Road Runners Club, the 2016 Ghost N Goblin is expected to be the best and biggest ever! Post race party with refreshments and a D.J.     Pacers needed for Detroit Marathon, International Half Marathon & US Only Half Marathon on 10/15/17

    Got in an email:
    Beast Pacing is looking for pacers for the Detroit Marathon & Half Marathon & International Half Marathon (10/15/17) in Detroit, MI. They need marathon pacers for the following time slots: 3:10 and 3:25.
     If you are interested in pacing this or others please send an email to info@beastpacing.com with your last 3 marathon or half marathon times (whichever is applicable), the races you ran them at, your phone #, address, singlet/shirt size, and if you own a Garmin or other GPS type watch.
     All pacers receive a complimentary entry into the race and all the goodies the regular runners receive (shirt, medal, official time, swag bag, and post race food etc.) Pacers are not allowed to wear music while pacing and are there to encourage and help other runners reach their goals.
     If you are motivated, love to help others, and can keep a consistent pace they'd love to hear from you!

    Tuesday Night Turtles Group Run begins October 3

    Starting this Tuesday October 3, the Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati will be having a group run for the slower runners called the Tuesday Night Turtles.  Pace will be 10 minutes and slower per mile.  Meet in Tower Park by the Tennis Courts at 6:30 PM. Routes will be between 2 to 4 miles. All paces are welcome as long as you can run slower than a 10 minute mile. For more information, contact us at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com.

    • DATE: Begins Tuesday, October 3, 2017 and every Tuesday through the rest of 2017.
    • TIME: 6:30 PM.

      Come to the Bean Bash Dash on Thursday Night on October 5 at 6:30 pm at Turfway Park. $20 per person. Registration includes admission to the Bean Bash Celebration on Saturday October 7 beginning at 1:00PM on the second floor. The Race begins and ends ON the Turfway Park track with registration located in the paddock area.       The Tarangini 5K Run or Walk features a 5K course starting at Corwin M Nixon Park in Mason, OH and loops through the trails of Pine Hill Park. Pre-registered participants receive T-Shirts and awards for the top 3 competitors. Proceeds benefit the Common Ground project in Mason, OH a playground for children with physical disabilities.       2017 Run@Work and Run@School Day - September 15

      The 12th Annual RRCA Run@Work Day and 6th Run@School Day presented by the RRCA is Friday September 15. Companies,businesses, running clubs, fitness centers, schools and other groups across the country are participating with planned fun runs and walks to get people moving.
      The Run@Work Day and Run@School Day goal is to encourage adults and children to get 30-minutes of exercise each day, in accordance with the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.
      Create an event at your work place with your co-workers or find an event to get moving. Get a planning kit, fact sheet, and posters on the RRCA website to help get you started! Post your event on the RRCA Run@Work Day Fan Page to let others know what you are doing on September 15.

      2017 Queen City Invitational - September 2

      The Queen City Invitational is an opportunity to see the local college cross country teams like University of Cincinnati, Xavier University and Northern Kentucky University race without a drive out of town. Come out and see the top upcoming young local distance runners compete against each other. 2017 marks the 36th year that the meet has been held.       2017 RCGC Series Week 4 Recap

      The 2017 RCGC Cross Country Series  fourth and final race of the series was this past Thursday August 10 at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood.  About 15 runners showed up to race on a 2 mile course that was pretty fast due to the recent round of weather (View photos).  Race conditions featured sunny skies, a slight wind and low humidity.  Top male was Andy Schenk who 11:14 over the hilly course. Top female was Nikki Schenk who ran a 13:35.  Thank you to runners and volunteers who participated in the 2017 RCGC Summer Cross Country Series.

      2017 RCGC Cross Country Series Week 3 Recap

      The 2017 RCGC Cross Country Series  third race was this past Thursday August 3 at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood.  About 18 runners showed up to race on a 2 mile course that was pretty fast due to the recent round of weather (View photos).  Race conditions featured sunny skies with a slight wind and some humidity.  Top male was Drew Bryan who ran an 11:28 over the hilly course and followed by Andy Schenk who ran 11:31.  Top female was Maddie Baker of Norwood who ran a 12:59.  Second female was Nikki Schenk who ran a 13:20.   Join us next Thursday August 10 at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood at 7:00 PM for the fourth race in the RCGC Urban Cross Country Series.

        2017 RCGC Cross Country Series Race #2 Recap

        The 2017 RCGC Cross Country Series  second race was this past Thursday July 27 at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood.  About 10 runners(mostly male) showed up to race on the 2 mile course that was in pretty good shape despite the early morning rain (View photos).  Race conditions featured humidity and dark clouds in the north and clear blue skies in the south. A slight rain started to fall about midway through the race.  The good news is that all the runners finished before the skies opened up and serious rain came.  Top male was the bare footed Seth Streitmatter who ran an 11:39 over the hilly course.   Join us next Thursday August 3 at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood at 7:00 PM for the third race in the RCGC Urban Cross Country Series.

        2017 RCGC Summer Cross Country Series Begins Tonight

        The first race of the 2017 RCGC Urban Cross Country Series is tonight  at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood at 7:00 PM.
        The race will be a 2 Mile Run over challenging terrain at Lower Millcrest Park. Wear Waffles, Trail Shoes, or short spikes. Starts by the Sherman Avenue Ballfields and finishes at the Lower Millcrest Park Shelter. No entry fees.  Just a hard workout on the 2 mile course designed by Stacy Osborne and Michael Guest.  A splendid time is guaranteed to all!         22 runners decided to figure out how fast that they could run a mile this past Sunday July 16, 2017  at the  RCGC Heat Blister Mile at Summit Park in Blue Ash OH(View Photos).  Conditions for the race were sunny, about 74 degrees  and somewhat humid to complement the race theme.
        Top finisher was Jerry Medina of Milford OH with a time of 5:36.99. He was followed by Joshua Lane who ran a 5:38.75 and Landen Fernandez who ran a 6:38.18. Top female was Loralei Young of Winchester OH who ran a 6:54.28. She was followed by Sarah Minges who ran a 7:00.81 and Sofia Adams-Lasse who ran a 7:20.79.   (View results).

        2017 NKU Cross Country Series Starts July 25th

        For those who love cross country, live in Kentucky, but are afraid to venture across the Ohio River, Northern Kentucky University has a Cross Country series on their training course on the NKU Campus beginning July 25. They will have three 2 mile races on Tuesday nights at 7:00pm beginning Tuesday July 25 and ending August 8th with the Brian Rohne Championship Race. This event is open to all ages and experience levels and a great way to introduce the sport to middle school/high school or just plain old school runners.         RCGC Grand Prix Update - Summer 2017

        Scores have been updated for the 2017 RCGC Grand Prix through the RCGC Track Mile.(View Standings) using official scoring.  Official scoring is based on your best 7 races run(either A, B, C), your best B race, and a C race.  The goal of the Grand Prix is to include and recognize members that do many of the races that the club puts on or supports. So far, about 75 club members have participated in at least one Grand Prix Race.
         The next races in the RCGC Grand Prix are the  Madeira Mile on July 3 followed by the Festival of the Bells on July 8 and the RCGC Heat Blister Mile on July 16.

        The Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati along with the Norwood High School Cross Country Team brings free cross country runs to Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood Ohio.         2017 RCGC Track Mile Recap

        14 runners participated in the RCGC Track Mile this Past Tuesday June 20 at Shea Stadium in Norwood Ohio in pleasant and but partially cloudy and slightly windy conditions for a June evening.  The course was  4 laps around the Track at historic Shea Stadium in Norwood OH.  With 14 runners, there was one heat and all runners received a finisher medal.
        The top male was William Foster of Dayton OH who ran the 1600 meters in 4:50.19 and followed by Logan Singleton of Goshen OH who ran a 4:58.57 and William Rover of Lexington KY who ran a 4:59.97. Top female was 15 year old Maddie Baker of Norwood OH who ran a 5:46.87.
        Thank you to our race day volunteers Nancy Barbian, Mike Guest, Todd Hofacre, and Stacy Osborne.Thank you to Norwood City School District and their athletic department for allowing the club to use the track for 2017. See you in 2018.

        Volunteer Opportunities - June 2017

        Here are some upcoming opportunities where you can help out the Runners' Club of Greater. If you can help out with any of these events, we would greatly appreciate it:
        1. RCGC Track Mile - The RCGC Track Mile needs 5-10 volunteers to help with registration, timing, course marshals and post race on Tuesday June 20. It would take 1-2 hours  of your time. The jobs is easy and you will get  a few goodies. Volunteering is one of the easiest ways to get to know other club members. Let us know whether you can help by emailing us at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com.  
        2. RCGC Heat Blister Mile - The RCGC Heat Blister Mile needs 5-10 volunteers to help with registration, and timing on Sunday July 16. It would take 1-2 hours  of your time. The jobs are easy and you will get the RCGC Technical Shirt plus a few other goodies. Volunteering is one of the easiest ways to get to know other club members.         Memorial Day Race 41 Recap and Results

        About 200 runners and walkers came out on Monday May 29 to Otto Armleder Park for Cincinnati's second oldest race.(View photos). They enjoyed a flat fast 5k course in sunny conditions.
        Cory Logsdon of Omaha Nebraska was the top male with a time of 16:27 followed by Seth Streitmatter in 17:59 and Chris Nye who ran an 18:56.  The top female finisher was Kimberley Rennie of Terrace Park who ran a 21:06 followed by 2016 Champ Annette Molina who ran a  time of 22:03 and Katherine Bayer with a time of 22:24.  Jerry Muskal was the top male walker with a time of 31:08 and Miriam Jacobs was the top female with a time of 41:40(View Race Results)

        RCGC Grand Prix Update - May 2017

        The Runners’ Club of Greater Cincinnati is doing a Grand Prix Series in 2017. The goal of the Grand Prix is to include and recognize members that do many of the races that the club puts on or supports or races that support the club.         Race Day Discounts For Club Members

        The Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati offers a Race Day  discount for club members on many of the races that it puts on like the Memorial Day Race and RCGC Track Mile.  To get the discount, you need to provide proof. If you are a club member, it can be difficult and to make registration run smoothly, please provide proof of membership so our volunteers can process you and other race day runners easily.  Proof of Current Membership can include one of the following:
        1. A current membership card that you downloaded from runsignup.com .
        2. If you do not have your card but your smartphone, you can use your smartphone to verify that your membership is current if you have an internet connection on race day.
        3. If you recently joined online via PayPal and do not yet have a card, a copy of your  membership receipt.
        4. A credible current member can vouch for you(Good luck with that). 
        5. Fill out a membership form on race day and pay for both the membership and the race.

        Memorial Day Race 41 Registration Ends Today

        Today is the last day to to register for Memorial Day Race 41, Cincinnati's second oldest race behind the Thanksgiving Day race.  Online Registration is available through midnight tonight. Register now before the price goes up.   Cost is $15- General Public and $10 - RCGC Members / 21 & Under.         • PLACE: Otto Armleder Park, Cincinnati OH. 
        • PRE-REGISTRATION: Early Registration ends Wednesday May 24, 2017. Cost is $15 for General Public and $10 - RCGC Members / 21 & Under. Optional  Memorial Day Race 41 Commemorative Shirt available for $8.00
        • DIRECTIONS:  From downtown Cincinnati: Take Columbia Parkway to the Beechmont Avenue Ramp. Right on Wilmer. Right on Beechmont Circle. Left on Wooster Pike. Park entrance is on the right at the stoplight just before US Bank Building.
