From Kara Garrod, a friend of Harvey Lewis. You can contact her at kgarrod@me.com for more info.
Friends of Harvey Lewis and the Greater Cincinnati Running Community:
Please join us as we surprise Harvey Lewis after he returns to Cincinnati as the 2014 Badwater 135 Champion. We will celebrate by running a one-mile loop starting and ending at the School for Creative and Performing Arts (108 W. Central Pkwy 45202) on Wednesday, July 30 at 7 p.m. Safe and easy parking is available in the garage under Washington Park. Participants will be expected to run on sidewalks along the route respecting all traffic rules, and will leave in waves every couple minutes so as not to disrupt traffic.
Please plan on arriving by 6:45 p.m. so we can all don commemorative T-shirts celebrating this feat before Harvey arrives. The first 100 attendees will receive cotton RunQuest Travel T-shirts featuring a Harvey Lewis quote ($5 donations to cover printing costs appreciated).
If you would prefer to purchase a guaranteed dri-fit technical RunQuest Travel shirt with Harvey Lewis quote, you may pre-order one for $12, to be picked up on-site. Please email kgarrod@me.com indicating your size preference by Sunday, July 27.
Feel free to disperse this email to our running friends and running groups, but as this is intended to be a surprise for Harvey, please be sure to remove his email address -- sweetland3@yahoo.com -- from any forward before sending. For now, please avoid referring to this event on all social media and the local media in general. We don't want publicity to ruin the surprise for Harvey. The day of, I will notify the local media in case they would like to cover the event. Thank you for respecting our desire to keep this a surprise.
Light refreshments will be provided after by our friends from RCGC. If there's enough interest, folks can head to the Rhinegeist Brewery (1910 Elm St 45202) for additional celebration after the event.

RCGC Urban Cross Country Series Race #1 Recap

The 2014 Urban Cross Country Series  kicked off at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood this past Thursday July 10. The series was moved to Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood after Summitview Park turned the iconic course designed by Stacy Osborne into an unintended Steeplechase with a .25 mile trench. About 45 runners plus showed up to race on the 3.1 mile course in sunny conditions. It also may have been the hardest cross country courses since the race was held at French Park made even harder by a few wasps who harrassed a few runners near the ballfields. Also, a few runners zigged when they should have zagged and finished a little earlier than expected. David Bea was the top male finisher with a new course record of 19:16 followed by Spike Knickel who ran a 19:56 followed by Kenji Heilman who ran a 20:30. There were a few females on the course but they got lost and finished early and the few that did not get lost were so slow that their times were not recorded as a means to motivate them to run faster in week 2.   Join us next Thursday July 17 at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood for the second race in the RCGC Urban Cross Country Series.
