RCGC Turkey Burner Mile Run Recap

About 30 runners decided to burn a few  extra calories and figure out how fast that they could run a mile this past Sunday November 30, 2014 for A Turkey Burner Mile Run at Summit Park in Blue Ash OH. For their efforts, runners received a finisher prize. Conditions for the race were warm, overcast and windy.  The wind would effect the runners on the out and back relatively flat mile course on the former taxi runway of Blue Ash Airport.
Top finisher was Ekaterina Nikiforova  with a time of 5:06 and was the top female overall.  She was followed by Larisa Mikhaylova who ran a 6:10 and Kelly O' Dell who ran a 7:14. Harvey Lewis was the top male with a time of 5:27 followed by Dennis Miles  who ran a 5:57 and John Garrity who ran a 6:16. (View results).
Thank you to our volunteers Cindy Cranmer, Tom Glasscock, Julia Glasscock, Paul Roche and her friend Tom, Stacy Osborne, and Paul Seibert.  Without their help, the race could not have happened.  A special thank to the City of Blue Ash for allowing us to use Summit Park and the taxi runway for the race.  See you next year. Run,Walk, Cycle Across America

Berkeley Lab has designed a transcontinental virtual trip across the United States. Each time you enter your mileage of either running, walking or cycling, they add it to your total and show you exactly what you would see if you had been traveling on the TransAmerica Trail from Yorktown, Virginia to Florence, Oregon. They also provide maps that show your progress and the progress of your friends if they have an account. If you wish, you can form teams to race across the United States. You can check it out at http://exercise.lbl.gov/index.html.

Lauren Fights For A Cure - Please Help

Got an email from Mark Knigga who is running the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon(IMM) this Saturday November 1 in Honor of Lauren Hill. Please help Mark raise $22,000 for Lady Tiger 22 and show your support at mile 22 at the IMM! Here is main part of the email:
Lauren and I live in the same town (Lawrenceburg, IN). She is 19 years old and was diagnosed last year with DIPG. DIPG is a cancer of the brain with a 0% survival rate that afflicts predominantly young children. Lauren is not expected to survive until the end of the year. Lauren is a student and basketball player at the College of Mount St. Joe in Cincinnati, Ohio. She will be participating in her first and only college game on Sunday November 2nd. On Saturday, I will be running the IMM (Indianapolis Monumental Marathon) in Lauren’s Honor. My goal is to raise $22,000. I chose this amount because it was Lauren's uniform number in high school. I have included the link below for the web site with additional information.

The Valentine's 2 Mile Labor of Love Run is one of the most unusual races you'll find in Cincinnati. The 2013 race had over 300 runners and for 2015 we are looking at getting 400 runners.
The 2015 race is looking for a few more sponsors. If you are interested in getting involved with one of Cincinnati's most unusual running events as a sponsor or more information about other club events, contact us at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com.

RCGC Grand Prix Update through the Panerathon

I have been lax with the Grand Prix Update over the past few weeks with catching up at work from vacation among other things. Here is an update of the 2014 RCGC Grand Prix through the September 21 weekend where there were 4 races that members could have run in.   The goal of the Grand Prix is to include and recognize members that do many of the races that the club puts on or supports. So far, about 70 club members have participated in at least one Grand Prix Race.
Below is a list of the top 5 male and female club members for scoring through the Panerathon.  Current scoring is based on all the races that you have competed in so far.  I will tally the official scoring at the end of October(Official scoring is based on your best 5 races, best B race and best C race) as there should be enough races by then. Next race in the series is the Hike For Hospice 5k(I decided to add it to the series in memory of Nick Greco) as an A Race followed by  Run Like Hell 5k which is a C race.
If you ran the Glow Run 5k at Kings Island, let me know at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com

The Extremely Unofficial Cincinnati Mile Series

With not much to do this past Labor Day weekend, most people would go to a park, enjoy the outdoors, run or some other fun activity.  Instead, I decided to see how I ranked in the Extremely Unofficial Cincinnati Mile Series.  Currently, the series consists of mile races.  As of right now, there are only 3 mile races that I know of - the Little Kings Mile in May, the Madeira Mile on July 3 and the Harvest Home Fair Mile on September 4.  So far 2 of the 3 mile races have been run and here are the current standings:

    Biomechanics Running Study at UC

Lauren Heitkmap is a Master's student at the University of Cincinnati and is currently seeking volunteer participants for a research study.  Her research study investigates human movement using a 3D motion capture technology on how gait changes while walking or running barefoot. Participants will be asked to walk and run naturally on a treadmill while wearing shoes and while barefoot as motion and muscle data are collected.
Volunteers need to be fit and healthy (with a normal BMI), run on average about 25 miles a week, have no gait-related injuries or irregularities, and between the ages of 18 and 30.
Participation requires 2 hours and new running shoes will be provided to participants that may be taken home after the study. If you wish to participate, please contact: Lauren Heitkamp:   heitkaln@mail.uc.edu, or 513-601-9135.

    2014 Midsummer Trail Run Recap

About 50 runners braved the hills, the fallen trees(even one that fell during the race), the mud, the rocks, the slipping and sliding  this past Tuesday August 12, 2014 for A Midsummer Night's Trail Run in Mount Airy Forest(View photos). Weather for the Tuesday night trail run was Sunny with a few clouds. The trail at Mount Airy was what you would expect after a few days rain as most parts were dry, some parts were wet and a few parts that were muddy. For finishing the race, runners received a pint glass for their efforts.
Badwater Champion Harvey Lewis just back from Badwater and vacation was the top male with a time of  33:18 followed by William Stolz with a time of 36:17 and Nathan Siegel who ran a 37:20.
