Dave Corfman Running the Badwater Ultramarathon
Saw the following in email from Mojo Running about Dave Corfman, ultramarathon enthuisiast and past Runners' Club Member:
West Chester native and occasional Saturday morning Mojo running group participant, Dave Corfman, is running the 2010 Badwater Ultramarathon, called "The World's Toughest Footrace." This 135 mile race begins in Death Valley, CA at an altitude of 282' below sea level, traversing three mountain ranges before ending at 8360' at the Whitney Portal on Mount Whitney, the lowest to highest points in the contiguous 48 states. To add to the challenge, this race is run July 12-14, when the temperature will be well over 120 degrees. Only 90 runners are invited each year from around the world. Dave will be the first Cincinnati runner to run Badwater since Tom Possert won the race in 1990. More information is found at www.badwater.com.
Dave has set up a blog that chronicles his journey from applying to the race, the thrill of being accepted, and the unique training involved. Follow the link at www.stonesteps50k.com to his Badwater page (he's the Race Director of Stone Steps 50k & 27k trail races). Charity fundraising is a big part of the Badwater Ultramarathon. As part of the race, Dave is raising donations for the American Heart Association in memory of his father, who died of heart disease, as well as honor two of his crew members who have successfully recovered from major heart procedures. Please consider donating to the America Heart Association through the link on Dave's Badwater page, or click on http://honor.americanheart.org/goto/Charles.Corfman. All donations go to the AHA.
