19th Annual Brian Rohne Memorial Run Recap

About 80 runners and walkers flocked to Northern Kentucky University for the 19th Annual Brian Rohne Memorial 5K Run / Walk(View Video)
Conditions were ideal for some fast times to be run on a rolling course. Congratulations to the overall men's winner John Michael Griffith and overall women's winner Allisha Hansman. Kevin ran a time of 16:51, closely followed by Ethan Shuley in 16:56 and Greaham Niemer in 17:16. Allisha ran a time of 19:13 followed by Chloe Gastright in  20:16 and Jennah Flairy in 20:18. Go to www.cincinnatirunning.com for a complete list of results.
The Brian Rohne Memorial 5K is held each year in honor of former NKU cross country runner Brian Rohne, who was killed by an automobile in January of 1993 while on a training run on the AA Highway in Cold Spring, Ky. During the 1992 fall season, Rohne had earned most valuable runner honors for NKU after being named All-Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Friendship City 5k Race Recap

The Friendship City 5k Run / Walk raises funds for the City of Erlanger Step Forward program to make Erlanger a more walkable community and connecting people through physical activity. This was the 10th year for the race, and the second time that I ran it(I ran it in 2012). I decided to do this race again at the last minute since Erlanger Ky is about 15 minutes from my home, having not done a race in sometime and the price was good as far as races go in Cincinnati.
The race started at the Erlanger Branch of the Kenton County Library. They had over 100 runners and walkers. Race Day Registration was $15. If you wanted a shirt, it was an extra 5 dollars. I decided against the shirt.  Course went through the residential areas of Erlanger and was pretty flat. They had one waterstop on the course and the miles were marked but no mile timers. Post race featured bagels from Panera, bananas, water and chocolate milk.  It also featured door prizes during the awards ceremony. Overall, it was a nice casual relaxed race with a flat course. If I need a last minute fix for a race, I may do it again next year.  For race results, visit www.runningtime.net.

Midsummer Night's Trail Run Shirts Still Available

Thank you to everyone that ran and volunteered in our Midsummer Trail Run Race this past Thursday evening. We hope everyone had a great time and will join us again next year!  If you would like a shirt from this year's race, you can get one from our store at Zazzle.com. The good news is that since the race director has the same fashion taste as Anne Hathaway from The Devil Wears Prada, you can change the style and color to something that you like.  The bad news is that shirt availability will not last long so order yours today.

Directions To Mount Airy Forest for the Midsummer Trail Run

As someone reminded me in an email, the Colerain Avenue exit  off I-74 is closed due to construction.  If you are unfamiliar with the area, take the next exit which is the Montana Avenue Exit, take a right and Montana becomes West Fork.  Stay on West Fork until you come to Colerain Avenue.  Take a left on Colerain and proceed to Mount Airy Forest which will be up the hill and on the left.  Registration will be at the Oval or Area 13 beginning at 5:30 PM See you then.

RCGC Summer Cross Country Series Race # 4 Recap

The 2013 RCGC Summer Cross Country Series held its fourth and final race at Summit View Park in Blue Ash this past Thursday August 1. About 100 runners showed up to race in weather that was in the low 80's with a wind from the west.  The course was in great shape as the last muddy part dried out. For the first time, participants were able to run on the same course as the week before. Lamuel Bean was the top finisher this week with a time of 20:41. Race Director Stacy Osborne decided to not get a top female as he believes that it will motivate them to run faster next year. Thank you to Stacy Osborne for serving as race director and his able and dread Captain Mike Smith for helping with timing, clean-up and all things cross country.   See you next year in 2014!
