Upstander 5k Run & Walk - June 29

The Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center take over historic Union Terminal for their annual Upstander 5K, Family Day & Upstander Volunteer Expo on June 29, 2025 at 8:30 am.

This year’s race is led by Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to officially register and run the Boston Marathon. In 1967, Switzer became the first woman to officially register and run the Boston Marathon. At a time when women were barred from competing, she fearlessly stepped up to the starting line. When a race official tried to forcibly remove her mid-course, she kept running — and in doing so, helped spark a global movement for women in sports.

Switzer will serve as the honorary Dr. Al Miller Race Marshal at the Upstander 5K, leading the race through Cincinnati’s West End and sharing her powerful story in a post-race conversation at 10 a.m. inside Union Terminal’s Reakirt Auditorium.

The Upstander 5K & Family Day includes:

  • A scenic 5K run/walk with Kathrine Switzer at the helm
  • Free admission to all Union Terminal museums
  • Live music, family activities, breakfast, and a pickleball tournament
  • Upstander programming and interactive experiences throughout the day
  • A powerful talk from Kathrine Switzer at 10 a.m.

Volunteer Opportunities - Spring 2025

Here are some upcoming opportunities where you can help out the Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati. If you can help out with any of these events, we would greatly appreciate it:

  •  Memorial Day Race - The Memorial Day Race needs 10-15 volunteers to help with registration, timing, and post race on May 26. It would take 1-2 hours of your time. The jobs are easy and you will get a volunteer shirt. Volunteering is one of the easiest ways to get to know other club members. Let us know whether you can help by emailing us at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com or sign up at the online registration page
  • Ongoing Openings - Currently we have few openings for keeping the club running on an ongoing basis: Social Chair and Board Member. Most positions take 2-3 hours a month of your time. If you can or would like to fulfill one of these positions, please send an email to cincinnatirunning@gmail.com or attend the next board meeting on May 12.

2025 Wonderland Run Recap and Results

About 25 runners and walkers competed in the 2025 Winter Wonderland Run this past Sunday February 23 in sunny, but cold conditions at Fernbank Park on the (Far) West Side of Cincinnati(View photos).  The previous week flooding and freezing temperatures merited a course change due to ice and flooding in Fernbank Park.  Runners and walkers travailed a relatively flat almost 3 mile course along the Ohio River.  Jenny Kane of  Guilford IN was the top finisher and top female with a time of 23:10.  Top Male and second place over all was Eric Bender of  Montgomery OH who ran a 24:44.  (View Race Results ).

Thank you to our sponsors Fleet Feet Cincinnati for the awards, and 13 Below Brewery for use of their parking lot. Thank you to our race day volunteers Megan Fryburger, Liz Hofacre, Todd Hofacre, and Marty Hovey.  Their patience and flexibility helped  the club put on a successful race.  See you in 2026.

Let us know whether you can help by emailing us at cincinnatirunning@gmail.com or sign up at the online registration page

If you can or would like to fulfill one of these positions, please send an email to cincinnatirunning@gmail.com or attend the next board meeting on March 10
