Upstander 5k Run & Walk - June 29

The Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center take over historic Union Terminal for their annual Upstander 5K, Family Day & Upstander Volunteer Expo on June 29, 2025 at 8:30 am.

This year’s race is led by Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to officially register and run the Boston Marathon. In 1967, Switzer became the first woman to officially register and run the Boston Marathon. At a time when women were barred from competing, she fearlessly stepped up to the starting line. When a race official tried to forcibly remove her mid-course, she kept running — and in doing so, helped spark a global movement for women in sports.

Switzer will serve as the honorary Dr. Al Miller Race Marshal at the Upstander 5K, leading the race through Cincinnati’s West End and sharing her powerful story in a post-race conversation at 10 a.m. inside Union Terminal’s Reakirt Auditorium.

The Upstander 5K & Family Day includes:

  • A scenic 5K run/walk with Kathrine Switzer at the helm
  • Free admission to all Union Terminal museums
  • Live music, family activities, breakfast, and a pickleball tournament
  • Upstander programming and interactive experiences throughout the day
  • A powerful talk from Kathrine Switzer at 10 a.m.
