2012 RCGC Summer Cross Country Series - Season in Review

2012 RCGC Summer Cross Country Series was the 45th time that the Series was run. Founded in 1968 by Barry Binkley and Don Wahle as a means for young runners to get ready for the Fall Cross Country Season, it is Cincinnati 2nd Longest contribution to the Cincinnati Running scene behind the Thanksgiving Day Race. For the first time since 1986, Stacy Osborne was not the race director and 2012 involved a few people to direct the a race each week until Mike Smith got back from Parts Unknown. It was probably one of the hottest on record as on a few Thursdays, heat and humidity made running quite interesting.
The season saw quite a few highlights as JJ Weber ran a 16:02 the first week to obliterate the old record of 16:40 set by David Bea on 2011. David Bea dominated the Men's Series 4 of the 6 weeks that it was ran. We had three female runners go under 20 minutes with Grace Kelly doing it 3 times. Unfortunately, the last race was cancelled due to the lightning in the area, a first in the 45 year history of the series.
